Just a few minutes from the lively heart of Trentham Spudfest, Little Hampton Farm opens its gates on Sunday 3rd May for Discovery Day—a calm, immersive experience that invites visitors to step away from the festival bustle and into the quiet beauty of a working sustainable farm. Set among rolling hills and rich volcanic soils, the farm offers a rare opportunity to explore the landscapes, practices, and flavours that define the region’s deep agricultural heritage.
Discovery Day is designed for families, gardeners, food lovers, and anyone curious about how good food begins in the soil. From the moment you arrive, the farm’s gentle rhythm sets the tone. The paddocks stretch softly across the hills, the orchard and market garden hums with life, with each part of the landscape contributing to a farming system built on care, biodiversity, and respect for the land.
Two guided tours, at 11:00am and 1:00pm, offer a deeper look into the farm’s sustainable practices. Led by Narelle and Simon these tours trace the journey from soil to harvest, highlighting how the farm from a blank canvas to a thriving orchard and market garden has evolved over the years. You’ll learn how soil health influences flavour, how biodiversity strengthens resilience, and how thoughtful land stewardship can shape the future of farming in the central highlands. Along the way, you will hear about about the natural cycles of the farm and how the property has evolved into a living example of sustainable agriculture whilst working alongside a changing climate.
In true Spudfest spirit, Discovery Day also celebrates the flavours of the region. This year, visitors can pre‑book a delicious pizza, made fresh on the farm and topped with seasonal produce grown just metres from the oven. It’s simple, honest food—warm, nourishing, and deeply connected to the soil it came from. Enjoy it under the trees, overlooking the paddocks, or take it with you as you continue exploring.
For those who want to bring a taste of the farm home, produce boxes are available for pre‑order. Filled with seasonal vegetables, herbs, and farm‑grown staples, these boxes offer a delicious way to extend the Discovery Day experience into your own kitchen. They’re a celebration of the region’s rich soils and the sustainable practices that give Little Hampton produce its distinctive depth of flavour.
Families will find plenty to delight curious young minds. Children are encouraged to explore freely, discovering the small wonders of farm life: insects at work, feathers caught in the grass, and the shifting textures of the paddocks. The day is intentionally unhurried, giving kids and adults alike the space to engage with the land in a hands‑on, sensory way. It’s a chance to step away from screens and schedules and reconnect with the natural world.
*Please note that each tour booking covers one person by default, you can purchase additional tickets by increasing the quantity. Children Under 12 are FREE – Quantities for add ons (pizzas & seasonal produce boxes) can be adjusted in the cart.
